Colon Tumor Resection

Colon tumor resection is considered one of the fundamental procedures in the treatment of gastrointestinal tumors, whether benign or malignant.

Dr. Amr El-Gazzar relies on specialized ultrasound examination of the colon and small intestine (Bowel Ultrasound) to diagnose colon tumors. This precise technique is used to determine the tumor’s location, size, and depth of invasion into the colon wall.

Bowel ultrasound helps distinguish between chronic inflammations, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, and tumors that require surgical intervention, sparing the patient from costly tests or exposure to radiation from CT scans and MRI.

After an accurate diagnosis, the type and extent of the tumor are determined to develop an appropriate treatment plan, which may include:

  • Partial or total surgical resection of the colon, depending on the tumor’s size and location.

  • Endoscopic surgery as an advanced option to remove small tumors with minimal intervention and without open surgery.

  • Chemotherapy or biologic therapy post-surgery in certain cases to prevent tumor recurrence.

Patients are regularly followed up at Dr. Amr El-Gazzar’s center using bowel ultrasound to monitor the colon after resection, ensuring tissue health and early detection of any signs of recurrence, achieving the highest levels of safety and success in treatment and follow-up.
