Bowel Ultrasound

What is Bowel Ultrasound ?

Bowel ultrasound , a modern technique utilizing ultrasound waves, reveals comprehensive details of the gastrointestinal tract. Starting from the stomach to the colon, including the small intestine.

The principle underlying bowel ultrasound is to measure the thickness of the stomach, small intestine, and colon walls. As well as to study the natural movement of the bowels and the degree of inflammation if present.

When the thickness of the digestive system wall exceeds the normal limit, it indicates a health problem. Which requires further examinations or endoscopy to inspect the gastrointestinal tract internally.

Dr. Amr El-Gazzar also employs this ultrasound to precisely pinpoint the location of inflammation before performing endoscopy. Thus enhancing the accuracy and speed of diagnosis.

In some cases, that recent ultrasound reveals a normal gastrointestinal tract, obviating the need for endoscopy. However, if ultrasound indicates otherwise, endoscopy is necessary, targeting the previously identified area.

Additionally, Dr. Amr El-Gazzar utilizes that ultrasound to monitor patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Which is  done after establishing a treatment plan without the need for a new endoscopy.

Furthermore, bowel ultrasound aids in the early detection of gastrointestinal tumors.

Bowel ultrasound enables precise examination of the peritoneum and abdominal folds. Thus facilitating accurate diagnosis of peritoneal tumors and intestinal tuberculosis.

Moreover, it allows the study of bowel movements to diagnose cases of complete or partial intestinal obstruction.

In addition to its diagnostic benefits, that recent ultrasound offers significant cost savings compared to MRI. Which avoids the need for contrast agents and radiation exposure associated with CT scans.

Furthermore, it is exceedingly safe for pregnant women and children.

Ultimately, it is the most effective method for diagnosing chronic abdominal pain in children.
